ESTATE ADMINISTRATION

When you or a loved one dies, relatives will usually be involved in probating your Will, or if there is no Will, having an administrator appointed to manage the estate. The executor or administrator will be responsible for collecting the assets of the estate, paying the debts, and distributing the remaining assets to the beneficiaries or heirs. We help administer the estate and provide guidance to executors and administrators to navigate the often confusing estate administration process. This includes starting the administration process at the Register of Wills, obtaining an EIN, sending out the appropriate Notices, setting up estate accounts, obtaining crucial date of death information, preparing and filing any required tax returns and, eventually, preparing an accounting and schedule of distributions, whether formal or informal, as well as preparing any final agreements.

Nik handles a majority of the estate administration for the firm. He has been helping administer estates for over 20 years and will walk you through the process step by step. He and I, together, will answer questions and advise during the entire estate administration process. We help you navigate the legal issues and tax implications of inheritance while remaining sensitive to the emotional needs of you and your family during this difficult time.  With over 40 years of combined experience, Nik and I are well equipped to not only provide the legal advice necessary to administer the estate of your loved one, but also to help you incorporate your newly inherited assets into your own personal estate plan.
